Rajasthan Nikay Chunav 2026: Jaipur to Vote on September 11, Reservation of 150 Wards Finalised

The dates for the Rajasthan Urban Local Body Elections 2026 are finally out, and Jaipur is set to vote next month.

The Rajasthan State Election Commission has announced that elections for 309 urban local bodies across the state will be held in two phases on September 9 and September 11, 2026. Counting for both phases will take place on September 14.

For Jaipur city, the important date is September 11, when voters will choose councillors for the newly reorganised Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC). The other 18 urban local bodies in Jaipur district are scheduled to vote in the first phase on September 9.

Jaipur Municipal Corporation Will Have 150 Wards

This election will also mark a major change in Jaipur’s civic structure.

Jaipur, which previously had separate Greater and Heritage municipal corporations, has now returned to a single Municipal Corporation with 150 wards. The post of Jaipur Mayor has also been kept unreserved for the upcoming election.

Ahead of the polls, the reservation lottery for Jaipur’s 150 wards was completed on August 17.

According to the reservation details reported after the lottery:

  • 30 wards are reserved for OBC
  • 20 wards are reserved for SC
  • 6 wards are reserved for ST
  • 50 of the total 150 wards are reserved for women across different categories
  • 63 wards are fully open/unreserved

Women’s reservation overlaps with the General, OBC, SC and ST categories, so the 50 women-reserved wards should not be counted as 50 additional wards.

The new reservation arrangement is likely to change the political equation in several parts of Jaipur, with parties and potential candidates now adjusting their plans according to the category allotted to each ward.

Important Rajasthan Nikay Election 2026 Dates

The election notification will be issued on August 27, while candidates will be able to file nominations until August 31.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is September 3.

September 9: First phase of urban local body elections
September 11: Second phase — Jaipur Municipal Corporation votes
September 14: Counting of votes
September 21: Election of Mayor/Chairperson
September 22: Election of Deputy Mayor/Deputy Chairperson

Jaipur Has Rajasthan’s Largest Urban Civic Electorate

Jaipur will be one of the biggest contests in the Rajasthan civic elections.

The Jaipur Municipal Corporation has around 24.2 lakh eligible voters, the highest among all urban local bodies going to polls in Rajasthan. Across the state, more than 1.4 crore voters are eligible to participate in the elections.

With the election programme announced, the Model Code of Conduct has also come into force in all 309 urban local bodies.

For Jaipur, the next few weeks will now see candidate selection, nominations and campaigning gather pace before the city heads to the polls on September 11, 2026.
