Coming to Jaipur for two days? You can fit in Hawa Mahal, City Palace and Amer, with time left for kachori, shopping and a hilltop view. Keep the old city for your first day and head towards Amer on the second. It saves you from spending half the trip going back and forth.
This Jaipur 2 day itinerary works best if you have two full days in the city. Use the times as a rough plan, and check each place’s opening hours before leaving. If breakfast runs late or you find a market you love, give yourself that extra time. You can always skip an optional stop.
| Day | Main route | Getting around |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Hawa Mahal → City Palace → Jantar Mantar → Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar | Walk between nearby sights; use a short auto or cab ride when needed |
| Day 2 | Amer Fort → an optional Amer village stop → Jaigarh or Nahargarh → Jal Mahal on the return, if it fits your route | Book a cab or arrange transport with return stops agreed in advance |
Only have one day? Use our one-day Jaipur itinerary instead.
Start your morning with Hawa Mahal. Find a spot across the road, take in the pink façade and get a few photographs before moving on to breakfast. This early stop is for the outside view. To explore inside, check the opening time and keep another 45–60 minutes free.
The road in front stays busy, so take your photos from a safe spot. If you fancy breakfast with a view, look at the cafés opposite Hawa Mahal. Check the menu and any minimum spend before choosing a table.
A pyaaz kachori and chai is a good way to begin a Jaipur morning. Find a clean, busy breakfast place nearby and take your time. There is plenty to see around here, so you can save the long cab ride for tomorrow.
Read the Hawa Mahal visitor guide for the entrance route and photo spots.
From Hawa Mahal, make your way to City Palace. Leave about two hours for the courtyards and museum galleries, especially if you like stopping to look at the details. Planning a Royal Tour? Give that more time and check its separate ticket price.
The official museum website currently lists daytime hours of 9:30 AM–6:30 PM, with the last tickets sold at 6:00 PM. The Indian adult museum ticket is listed at ₹400. Royal Tour access is a separate, much higher-priced option, so check exactly what your ticket includes.
Current visit note: the official website lists the Textile Gallery as temporarily closed for restoration and Museum at Night as temporarily closed. Check these notices before booking. Parking is listed at Gate 2 near Jaleb Chowk.
Our City Palace guide has more visitor information. For live ticket options and closures, use the official City Palace visitor page.
Jantar Mantar is right beside City Palace. Give it around an hour. The huge instruments make much more sense when someone explains how they work, so consider a guide if you are curious. Agree on the price and tour length first.
Much of the visit is outdoors. Carry water and a hat, and move this stop earlier if heat is a concern. Rajasthan Tourism currently lists entry from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, last ticket at 6:30 PM, and tickets of ₹50 for Indians and ₹200 for foreign visitors. Confirm the current rate at the booking portal or counter.
By now, you will probably be ready for lunch. Pick somewhere close by and sit down for a proper break. Try a Rajasthani thali if you want a little of everything, or order a simple meal if that morning’s kachori has kept you full.
Leave the next hour flexible. If lunch takes longer, shorten the shopping stop rather than rushing through your meal.
Spend the afternoon around Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar. Browse jewellery and textiles in Johari Bazaar, then look for juttis, clothes and little things to take home in Bapu Bazaar. Walk around a few shops before buying, compare prices and ask about exchanges.
For a jewellery purchase, ask for a bill and the relevant purity or gemstone documentation. A seller’s description alone is not enough for an expensive purchase.
Badi Chaupar Metro is a useful arrival point for the Hawa Mahal area. Walk within the old city where practical, and take an auto for longer gaps rather than repeatedly moving a car through the bazaars.
Have dinner, or add a visit to Raj Mandir Cinema if a suitable show is available. Govind Dev Ji darshan is another option, but check the current darshan schedule before going. Do not assume the temple remains open continuously.
Have an early breakfast and head towards Amer. Check the opening time the day before, then leave enough time for the drive from your hotel. Once inside, keep two to three hours free. Wear shoes you can walk in comfortably—there are steps and slopes along the way.
Rajasthan Tourism places Amer Palace about 11 km from the main city, but your drive depends on your starting point and traffic. Keep a buffer instead of planning the next stop to the minute.
Check the Amer Fort guide and the official ticket portal before visiting. Guide fees, transport up to the entrance and special experiences may cost extra.
If you have time, choose Panna Meena ka Kund or Jagat Shiromani Temple. Keep roughly 30–45 minutes for one stop, allowing extra time for getting there. At the stepwell, follow staff instructions about access and photography; do not assume you can go down the steps.
If you have spent longer than expected at Amer, go for lunch and leave the extra stop for another visit. There is still an afternoon ahead, and a little break will help.
After lunch, choose the place you would enjoy more. Jaigarh Fort works well if you want to continue exploring the forts around Amer. For a view across Jaipur, head to Nahargarh. Give either visit about 1.5–2 hours and leave extra time for the hill roads.
Covering Amer, Jaigarh and Nahargarh in one day is a packed plan. If you want all three, leave out the village stop and expect a longer day.
For Nahargarh, check last entry and access before planning a sunset visit. A sunset plan does not guarantee entry to palace areas after their closing time. Arrange your return cab before going uphill.
If your return route passes the lake and you still have time, stop for the roadside view of Jal Mahal. Treat it as a 15–20 minute exterior/photo stop, not an interior palace tour. You can also make this stop on the outward journey if that works better.
Here is a rough budget to help you plan. These are estimates; your actual spend will depend on where you eat and the transport you book. Keep hotel costs, travel to Jaipur, shopping and premium tours separate.
| Expense | Suggested allowance | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Food | ₹600–₹1,000 per person per day | Check menus; cafés and premium restaurants can cost more |
| Transport | ₹2,000–₹3,500 for an Amer/fort sightseeing cab day per vehicle | Get a quote; confirm hours, stops, parking and extra charges |
| Entry tickets | Add the current prices for the places you choose | Nationality, concessions, composite tickets and premium access change the total |
For two people, the food allowance above plus one shared cab day comes to roughly ₹4,400–₹7,500 in total. You will still need to add monument tickets, transport on Day 1, your hotel and any shopping. Ask for a cab quote before you finalise the budget.
For this route, look for accommodation with convenient access to the old city or Amer Road. MI Road and nearby central areas can also work. Check the actual location, parking and recent reviews rather than booking on the area name alone.
Travelling with children or older family members? Keep one fort on Day 2 and reduce walking on Day 1. Arriving after lunch? Start with markets and move the missed monuments to the next morning; you will need to drop some other stops.
Two full days are enough for a first visit covering the old city and Amer with selected extras. Add a third day for a slower trip, more temples, museums or a nearby excursion.
You can combine walking, Metro and short auto rides on the old-city day. A cab is more convenient for Amer and the hill forts, particularly with family.
Keep it as an optional evening on a day you finish sightseeing early. It requires a separate journey and current package check; do not add it automatically after a long fort day.
